New Pattern: Free Range Cables Cowl
I wrote and published a pattern on Ravelry!
The backstory: This summer, I headed down to Oregon for a beach weekend with my family. As usual, I brought my knitting everywhere (they thought it was hilarious) and snuck into all the yarn shops I could find. In one of them was this skein of Blue Moon Fiber Arts Single Sikly Targhee in this gorgeous combination of maroon, grey, yellow, and white, called Free Range Chickens. Of course, I had to buy it, and I spent the next couple of months thinking about what I’d want to make with it — something that showed off the colors but had a little bit of intrigue in it as well. Initially I thought I would make something poncho-like or shrug-like, but I kept coming back to something triangular.
I’m always intrigued by triangular scarves, the variety of construction techniques, and the different ways they can be worn. At the same time, I want cowls to work but they never seem to have the same drape on me that they have on other people. Sometimes I just want to pull something on over my head, you know? So when I thought about what kind of triangular poncho-cowl-shawl I could make, I eventually wound up with this: a triangular cowl with days of garter stitch and a growing cable pattern that goes down one side.
It’s cozy, warm, and most of all, really fun to wear.
You can find the pattern on Ravelry here, and until November 10th you’ll get 25% off when you use the code FREERANGECABLES. If you do knit it, let me know what you think!
